Carbon emissions trading is a form of emissions trading that specifically targets carbon dioxide (calculated in tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent or tCO2e) and it currently constitutes the bulk of emissions trading. This is a common method countries utilize in order to meet their obligations specified by the Kyoto Protocol; namely the reduction of carbon emissions in an attempt to reduce (mitigate) future climate change.
The Rainforest Initiative provides a full complement of legal, regulatory and advisory services related to emission trading. We develope and structure projects mitigating greenhouse gas reductions (carbon finance transactions, Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) and Joint Implementation). We also advise our clients on the regulatory framework of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, the Kyoto Protocol, and the European Emissions Trading Scheme. We have extensive experience in drafting and negotiating complex carbon agreements, related, among others, to the establishment of carbon funds, the implementation of projects, or the contracting of intermediaries.
We closely work with companies, governments and non-governmental organizations on reducing emissions in energy, households, industry, agriculture and forestry. We aim to find a creative and unique solution for every single client, ranging from the development of policies to protect the rainforest to structuring greenhouse gas mitigation projects in the energy sector.
Our unique programs will assist you in finding the most environmentally sound methods for reducing Green House Gas (GHG) emissions.
The Rainforest Initiative serves as a partner for carbon market buyers and sellers investing in or developing carbon assets. We advise developers to ensure projects meet regulatory requirements, achieve optimal emission reductions and resolve complex technical or legal matters such as the rules and regulations of carbon market standards. We also have the capacity to assist in the development of new methodologies or the revision of existing ones, and prepare or review project documentation.
We are one of the few organisations with national legal, policy and technical expertise in REDD+ and agriculture to advance projects and policies that curb climate change through sustainable land-use practices and conservation. We possess on-the-ground experience in every region, as well as unique experience and understanding of the legal, regulatory, and policy issues surrounding the design and implementation of successful forest, agriculture and land use initiatives.
